How to sign in to a Microsoft account

A Microsoft account is the email and password you use for Windows, Microsoft 365, Xbox, and the Store. Work and school accounts are separate, even if the address looks similar.

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com or choose Sign in on this site.
  2. Enter the email, phone number, or Skype name on the account. If you are not sure which one, try the address that receives your security codes.
  3. Enter the password, or approve the number shown in the Authenticator app if passwordless sign-in is on.
  4. If you use two-step verification, approve the prompt or enter the code.

If the password is not accepted

  • Check the account type. A work account signs in through your organization, not the personal account page.
  • Use Forgot password to send a code to the security email or phone on the account.
  • Caps lock and a saved password from another profile are the most common mismatches.

This demo never receives your password. Use the real Microsoft account site when you need to sign in.
