New to Copilot? Start with Chat

Copilot Chat is the simplest way in. You type what you need in plain language, and Copilot answers, drafts, or summarizes. You do not need a special command syntax.

Try a first prompt

1. Open Copilot from the Copilot app, Microsoft 365, Windows, or copilot.microsoft.com and sign in if you want saved history.
2. Type one clear job. For example: “Summarize this in five bullets” or “Draft a short reply that says I can meet Thursday.”
3. Add a file, a selection, or a link when the answer depends on something you already have.
4. Read the result, then follow up in the same thread: “Make it shorter” or “Use a friendlier tone.”

Chat is a conversation. If the first answer is off, correct it in the next message instead of starting over.
